Cantonese for Beginners
This is a unique course specially designed and developed for people wanting to speak or understand a few words of Cantonese for both serious and fun reasons. The main goals of this program are :-
1. To provide learners with an appreciation of the Cantonese spoken language.
2. To learn a number of useful words of the Cantonese spoken language in as short a time as possible.
The technique your Cantonese teacher will be using is based on a system called Personal Auditory System, PAS, which was first developed by ACCS to teach our students spoken Mandarin in our "Chinese for Travellers" workshop. Based on a very simple concept that although individual learners listen to sounds differently and also vocalise sounds differently, they can reproduce the required pronunciations reasonably accurately if they can spell the sounds in their own phonetic spelling. In the process of actually spelling the sounds themselves it can also assist them in remembering the spoken word.
From Cantonese Level 2 onwards, we will be using the Yale Romanisation system as this will then provide you with a more uniform way of reading and pronouncing Cantonese words in other books and media. You will learn about tones and tonemarks at this higher level together with some grammar.
I've loved every minute at the school, the teachers are fantastic and the school is so flexible and
fun to be a member of. Thanks!
